Vita Ersatz - Dollerie Uncut

Announces the first quarterly day-long livejournal doll posting event!

Sunday, July 6, 2008!

Throughout the day, post your doll pictures uncut!
Please keep the individual posts to seven images only and do not piggyback your posts -
the effect being that our friends lists will be populated with a wild and wonderful variety of uncut doll imagery!

In order to further spread and share the Dollerie, we are suggesting
that images remain unlocked and that you link back to the person who
posted their pictures before you, as not everyone has the same friend
list. Anyone can post at any time. [info]kittymaru and I will
start the show Sunday morning.

Let's make this happen!

Please feel free to copy and paste this into your own journals! Pimp it!!!

Yes we go to Roppongi Street!

  • Jul. 3rd, 2008 at 8:18 PM
Roppongi Street, the UKs first parapara clubnight now has an official site.

www.roppongistreet.com

Lots will be added to it in the future including a forum. Hopefully it can become the home for UK paralists as well as giving all the latest news on Roppongi Street.

And just a quick reminder that Roppongi Street is this Saturday. We have paralists from all over Europe attending as well as our very special guests SCP and legendary eurobeat singer Domino.

Hope to see lots of you there!

New Babyz @ Target

Last night on one my excursions to the Red Dot Boutique I picked up a few items, but I couldn't leave without checking out the Bratz aisle. Nothing really to look at but a bunch of clearanced Closmins from this past Spring, but I DID manage to find one of each of the new Babyz, minus Sasha of course. I can appreciate the creative reinvention, but I've never really been into the Babyz. I like Jade, but I think I'll probably pass on all of them, since there's so many regular Bratz I want. I'm hoping I'll find some new girls this weekend since over at Dolly Cafeteria theReally Rock Collection was found at Toys R Us

A post on Oobject collects a bunch of medical mannequins from various vendors, including robot-like dental mannequins, rubber CPR dummies and highly articulated trauma mannequins with multiple injuries. [See my earlier entry about a Japanese elder care mannequin for another example of these figs.] They are all real examples of teaching tools that are really for sale, and their high level of detail, realism and flexibility makes them beautiful works of sculpture. Whenever I get a life-sized articulated doll, I will use a medical mannequin as the base for the body, as fashion mannequins do not match the sheer number of joints possessed by some of these plastic trauma victims.

Do you like fashion? Do you like paper? Well it’s a small world then, because so do I! That’s why I’ve created [info]paper_runway, a competition centering around Project Runway, only not so... 3-D. Here you’ll have the opportunity to play along with the show and express your own design aesthetic on a slightly smaller scale. So come on over and check it out! Are you in... or are you out?

BRATZ GIRLZ REALLY ROCK FOUND AT TOYS R US

  • Jul. 2nd, 2008 at 8:20 PM

"IT'S MORNING AGAIN IN AMERICA!"

Ladies and gentlemen, it is morning again in America. Bratz fans have awakened to a bright day in their lives, with the sun smiling down on them, because they are experiencing a defining moment in American history with the release of the Bratz Girlz Really Rock collection. And for the first time in a very long time, I am proud to be a Bratz fan:

All right, so I went to the Toys R Us in Bridgewater, New Jersey, where I found the Bratz Girlz Really Rock dolls in stock. I captured a few photos, and I will admit: The photos did not come out good, because I had my camera on the wrong resolution setting! However, at least you can see that, yes, I did find these in stock at Toys R Us.

I did not purchase Cloe or Jade, since they had bad face paint jobs. I will purchase these at a later time. Also, I ordered Bratz Girlz Really Rock Sasha online and found out that Amazon shipped my order today!

Under the leadership of MGA Entertainment President and CEO Isaac Larian, Bratz has become prouder, and stronger, and better....why would we ever want to return to where we were less than two short years ago?

Auction House

  • Jul. 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 PM

So I spent most of the day yesterday taking photos of all the Jenny and Barbies I have to sell and get rid of. I was thinking that I would like to auction off some of this stuff since I have no idea how much they’re actually worth, but I’d like to get the most money I can out of them… especially since my Jenny dolls are in new condition.

I thought about eBay and… I dunno. Ebay is not so appealing to me. I’m not concerned with the fees as of now because I’m a buyer, but I’m sure if I try to sell something I’ll get charged out of the wazoo. I feel that auctions get lost and I’m given a small chance to sell my stuff. Right now I wanna try to pull a profit, not a loss. XD

I remembered that my webhost offered an auction service that I could install on my site. However, when I looked into it (and installed it) I quickly found out that the construction, although it visibly looked nice, was shoddy and half-assed. I also found that not only did it have problems spamming 1000+ emails to the winning bidder and seller after an auction but it had major MAJOR security issues leaving doors open for hackers and viruses. DOH

So I did some research. I did find something nice and easy to use and I plan on buying it. If I do set this up, the auction service would not be limited to me selling only. I guess what I’m saying is that if I do get this up and running and you have some things to sell that are doll related, I would be happy to host your auctions. You can sell your stuff just like ebay, leave feedback and all and it would be a more targeted community viewing your auctions. I’m not sure if I would charge a one time sellers sign up fee to help recover the cost of setup, but ideally I’d like it to remain free because that’s what I’m trying to dodge right now. Who knows. If everyone advertises it, it could become a major auction house for doll collectors everywhere. :3

Anyway. I also got the wood I ordered so I should be able to start making furniture. Tony ordered some special lights for the doll lamps and they’re looking pretty impressive. They run on regular old D batteries so they’re not a pain to use like regular dollhouse lights. Still no photos yet though…

I did a mocumentary on Project Runway. I called it Runway Challenge, The contestants I made fun of are, Austin, and Vennessa from season one, and Christian and Ricky from the last season. I hope you like it!

Playing around with the IceKing and wondering, if perhaps, he might not be, instead, the King of Dreams....I know these bun wigs are an acquired taste - much like Crispin Glover (apparently) - but I love them. Love. Them. And I love it on him. These are also not his IceKing eyes, but a more foggy, albino eye from Soom. I'm seriously considering breaking out the black pastels and going grey blushing on this boy.

Dollstown 15boy body, Elysia head - paleskin. Soom hands - whiteskin.

There's still time for you to join the party!!!
Summary: Creepy, luxuriously described dark fantasy about lonely, intelligent Clare and her seduction by titular doll maker. Convincing, sympathetic main character, smooth prose, kinky subtext and great insight into the weird, ambivalent relationships people have with their dolls -- all these things make The Doll Maker a neglected gem.
